Political Class

Our political leadership ignores or denigrates America’s First Principles and history

Our political class and leaders are ignorant of, or denigrate, America’s First Principles and history.

Fashionable politicians have become adept in wrapping themselves in the flag and spouting patriotic sound bites. Yet most political leaders do not appear to know or understand our First Principles or history. They certainly do not seriously discuss or consider them when addressing the issues of the day.

Others in the political class and elite simply believe that our founding principles should be relegated to backwater history courses and dusty library books. Presidential and congressional campaigns engage in a broad range of topics, but our political leaders almost never mention or address our First Principles.

To observe that our political dialogue has degenerated into an exercise just short of name calling, is chock full of poisonous partisan wrangling, and often is nothing more than the politics of personal destruction, is to simply state the obvious. Almost all of our current political discourse ignores our First Principles and history out of ignorance, convenience, or disdain.

Contrary to the prevailing view, the First Principles remain exceptionally enlightening to the discussions of the day – only if someone were to use the illumination they provide.  By ignoring or denigrating our First Principles, our political class and leadership jeopardizes our ability to preserve our freedom.

“Our democracy’s survival rests upon our transmitting to each new generation the political vision of liberty and equality that unites us as Americans. Jefferson stated it best when he said, ‘If we expect in a state of civilization to be ignorant and free, we expect what never was and never will be.’ Michael Warren is a true modern patriot whose efforts in education are one way to build a strong democracy for our future.” – J. Kelli Sweet, Michigan Council for the Social Studies, Executive Director

“Michael Warren is the Paul Revere of the 21st century, warning of an invasion of the American spirit that threatens to eviscerate the country’s founding principles and rot the nation from within. He documents the historical illiteracy that is truly dumbing down the future of America, its children. It’s time for America to answer this intellectual and spiritual call-to-arms.” – Richard Burr, The Detroit News, Associate Editor, Editorial Page

"America's Survival Guide describes with detail and passion the dangers that come from abandoning the "First Principles" upon which this nation was founded. But this important book offers more than a diagnosis and despair, it presents a reasoned program for restoring the U.S. Constitution its proper place at the center of American society and government. The book draws on history, politics and education to make a powerful case for freedom and fighting for it."

--John Engler, former Governor of Michigan
